چکیده

We study H(div) preconditioning for the saddle-point systems that arise in a stochastic Galerkin mixed formulation of the steady-state diffusion problem with random data. The key ingredient is a multigrid V-cycle for a weighted, stochastic H(div) operator, acting on a certain tensor product space of random fields with finite variance. We build on the Arnold-Falk-Winther multigrid algorithm presented in [1] by varying the spatial discretization from grid to grid whilst keeping the stochastic discretization fixed. We extend the deterministic analysis to accommodate the modified H(div) operator and establish spectral equivalence bounds with a new multigrid V-cycle operator that are independent of the spatial and stochastic discretization parameters. We implement multigrid within a block-diagonal preconditioner for the full stochastic saddle-point problem, derive eigenvalue bounds for the preconditioned system matrices and investigate the impact of all the discretization parameters on the convergence rate of preconditioned minres.

Efficient Solvers for a Linear Stochastic Galerkin Mixed Formulation of Diffusion Problems with Random

We introduce a stochastic Galerkin mixed formulation of the steady-state diffusion equation and focus on the efficient iterative solution of the saddle-point systems obtained by combining standard finite element discretizations with two distinct types of stochastic basis functions. So-called mean-based preconditioners, based on fast solvers for scalar diffusion problems, are introduced for use ...

Mixed finite element formulation enriched by Adomian method for vibration analysis of horizontally curved beams

Abstract: The vibration analysis of horizontally curved beams is generally led to higher order shape functions using direct finite element method, resulting in more time-consuming computation process. In this paper, the weak-form mixed finite element method was used to reduce the order of shape functions. The shape functions were first considered linear which did not provide adequate accuracy....

A Mixed Formulation for the Brinkman Problem

The Brinkman model is a unified law governing the flow of a viscous fluid in cavity (Stokes equations) and in porous media (Darcy equations). In this work, we explore a novel mixed formulation of the Brinkman problem. Introducing the flow’s vorticity as additional unknown, this formulation allows for a uniformly stable and conforming discretization by standard finite elements (Nédélec, Raviart-...
